Painting Upholstery!

The project I mentioned last winter was finally completed! My daughter & son-in-law came to visit & while here, we tackled that project which was, to refurbished two rather unique old chairs I had. Instead of my original plan to reupholster them, I found a website that showed how to paint upholstery! We both put 2″ firm foam in the seats before we started as both seats were quite concave. We removed the underside fabric to install the foam (cut to the size of the seat) and nailed the fabric back over it. THEN we worked with common latex enamel paint mixed with a fabric medium. We misted the chairs fabric with water before painting. My daughter chose a light green paint & I chose a medium green. We put on a second coat within an hour. If the chair is a little stiff or has some rough edges from the paint, use a very fine grade of sandpaper (120) to soften it. Both turned out rather well considering the condition they were in.

Both chairs after the second coat. Nice!

This was a lot of fun & took barely two hours. Down the road we may reupholster our chairs anyway, but for now it’ll do fine & we learned something new!

WCSL Annual Family Event

The Westmoreland County Sportsmen’s League had their Annual Family Event on May 6th this year. It was our biggest turnout so far with some great displays, animals, & prizes! All the prizes, food & admission was FREE thanks to some wonderful sponsors & volunteers!
I included some of their signs as well as a number of pics for all to view. You can see some of our wonderful volunteer workers as well as some of the children who won prizes too. There were far too many folks involved for my little cell phone to catch all their pics, sorry guys!
Here’s hoping we see an even better turnout next year!

Memories of Dear Friends

Today is the 13th anniversary of the deaths of two dear friends. My mother-in-law Ethel & dear friend Beth died within 15 minutes of each other. I received so many blessings from these two women. Ethel gave me a deep love for nature, plants & birds in particular.  With Beth I had the privilege of knowing her family & being part of it. With the pledge to take care of each other’s children should anything happen to either of us, I was given the joy of helping to raise her children when she passed away. Upon marrying Dan Buchko years later I was truly blessed to be given 4 wonderful stepchildren. Although I would love to have them both back in my life, I am grateful for their influences on me & for many wonderful memories. I am also looking forward to the day we meet again in Heaven!

Cute New Children’s Book

I went to Amazon.com & typed in “How the Ladybug Got Her Spots“. It is a sweet little story written by Caren Green & artfully illustrated by Bethany Goossen. I recommend you download this & read it to your little ones. The cost is only .99 cents, definitely a good buy!

Zedonk or Zonkey?

Isn’t she adorable? She is named Pippi Longstocking for obvious reasons. This little girl is a cross between a donkey and a zebra. I want one!

New Project For The New Year

I was given two chairs like the one above. Isn’t it gorgeous? This will be my first project for the new year-to reupholster them! Never did it before so wish me luck. I will post the finished product!

I Love This Woman’s Singing

My friend Maria introduced me to Selena’s singing and I fell in love with her voice and songs immediately. Everything I heard of her was so positive and sweet. The first part of this medley is a song  I used to do for karaoke called Amor Prohibido.

Narrow Escape From the Twilight Zone?

I was driving home from Illinois today and got off the highway to check out an Antique Mall on a small side road. Unfortunately being Sunday it was closed but I noticed a roadsign nearby that had “Ligonier 18 miles” on it. I am from Ligonier (in PA) and thought “Wow a short cut, only 18 miles” (as opposed to 398 miles still via the highway!) Then I remembered a book I read at Barnes and Noble the night before regarding worse case senarios. One of those topics was getting sucked into the Twilight Zone and I realized that this very well could be just that. Maybe this was a time warp and would take me to Ligonier but would it be my time period? Or even this dimension? Remembering all the old Twilight Zones I’d seen, once you followed the lure & went somewhere, very few people returned to their original site. As I didn’t want to chance losing my cat or my egg & nest collection… oh yeah or my family, I let wisdom prevail. Yes, I chose the side of caution, returning to the slightly longer route home on the main highway. Scaredy cat? Maybe, but do we really know……..

Dancing with all kinds of Stars

I love watching good dancers whatever the format may be from 1940’s Swing to today’s Popping and Locking. This boneless gentleman is one of my faves as is the classic Fred and Ginger video below. You may have to click on the youtube tag to view them.
